Turkey Trot has been a Northfield tradition for over 25 years! Turkey Trot is a walk/run and silent auction held each October. It is an all-day event that the kids look forward to all year. For those who may be new to the Northfield family here is some additional information.
In September we have "Turkey Trot Kickoff". This is where we announce our Turkey Trot "theme" and get the kids excited to gather pledges from friends and family. This day usually involves Dr. Loyd making the kids laugh (our theme last year was the Olympics and Dr. Loyd was an athlete in "training"). Turkey Trot information packets will be sent home with every child on this day.
Kids gather pledges (either on a per lap basis or a flat donation) and can turn in any money they collect every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Prizes are awarded each week as your child reaches a new prize level (levels and prize information will be in the packet sent home to parents).
On the day of Turkey Trot (October 25, 2013 is our scheduled date this year) all students will walk/run around the circle on Haynes Haven Drive (first grade wing) proudly wearing their new Turkey Trot t-shirts paid for by our corporate sponsors. We will have music playing and lots of parents and faculty cheering them on. Fourth through sixth graders can opt out of trotting by collecting enough donations so they can "party on the hill" while the trot is going on. This is a always a fun day and we invite parents to come and be a part of the festivities.
Three years ago PTO added a silent auction to the Turkey Trot day and it has been a tremendous success!! Our PTO works very hard to procure gift cards for local restaurants, spas and stores as well one-of-a-kind items and gifts. This is a great way to get get some shopping done while helping our school!
Once Turkey Trot is over children will collect any remaining pledge money and can continue turning it in each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In December we will have our Turkey Trot awards day where we will celebrate our success!! 100% pf the money we raise through Turkey Trot is given back to the school for things like teacher room accounts and new technology.
Now that you know a bit about what Turkey Trot is, the next question is how can you get involved?!? PTO needs lots of helping hands to make this event a success and we welcome your support. To volunteer send an email to [email protected].
We also need business or individuals willing to donate items for the silent auction or to help underwrite our t-shirts. Please contact us for more information on how you can help our school and advertise your business at the same time.
